R&HA in sector first ISO accreditation

Rudolph & Hellmann Automotive has become the first company in the automotive logistics sector to achieve ISO 45001 accreditation.

The new standard, introduced in 2018, provides a framework for organisations to put in place an effective occupational health and safety management system to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions.

More than 7,600 people die each day from work-related accidents or diseases.

The burden of occupational injuries and illness is significant, both for employers and the wider economy, resulting in losses from early retirements, staff absence and rising insurance premiums.

ISO 45001 helps R&HA to reduce that burden and provide assurance and peace of mind to our staff, suppliers and customers that we are doing all we can to create a safe and healthy working environment.

The standard was developed by an international committee of occupational health and safety experts, and follows other generic management system approaches such as ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.

it provides a framework that takes into account the interaction between an organisation and its business environment, by setting out a risk-based approach that ensures it is effective and undergoes continual improvement.

It is the new international standard for occupational health and safety and replaces BSI’s OHSAS 18001, which will be phased out  by March 2021.

R&HA currently employs more than 1,000 people at sites across the UK, which makes it absolutely critical we get our approach to occupational health and safety management right.

Our people are our most important asset. Providing them with a safe and healthy working environment and ensuring their wellbeing at all times is a key corporate priority.

R&HA Director Paul Wheeldon said:

“We’re delighted to not only have achieved this important new accreditation but to have become the first company in the automotive logistics sector to secure it.

“ISO 45001 sets out very strict new criteria in terms of how businesses like ours should approach their occupational health and safety management.

“We’ve been helping customers to remove inefficiency and waste from their logistics processes to become more lean and productive for many years. This additional certification provides further verification of the effectiveness of our internal health and safety processes.

“Our philosophy doesn’t just apply to how we help our customers. We work hard internally to set the highest standards possible and achieving this certification demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement of the business as a whole.”
