Doing good is an integral part of doing well

Corporate social responsibility and adopting environmental management and sustainability best practice are an important part of our overall business strategy here at R&HA.

As a responsible business, we know that doing good is an integral part of doing well. We believe the steps we have taken to ensure we have the highest of standards in place is what sets us apart from our competitors, keeping us at the cutting edge of the automotive logistics industry.

We’ve held an ISO 14001 accreditation for almost two years, and we know that it is setting a standard for better business practice at R&HA, because we’ve had no instances of non-conformance since we achieved it. 

That’s extremely significant, because we know that there is a lot of environmental risk within our business. But we have taken major proactive action to manage and mitigate that risk, as evidenced by our compliance record over the past two years.  

Holding ISO 14001 accreditation means we can assure our customers that our environmental management systems meet automotive industry-specific standards.

As a business, we also participate in several schemes which help us to further minimise our impacts on the environment and the communities we serve.

These include working with Cancer Research UK to recycle work and personal clothing items from staff, which would otherwise be sent to landfill. We have collection bins at several locations across R&HA where staff can donate old garments for recycling.

These are then sorted by Cancer Research UK and sold through its network of shops. This initiative has helped to raise more than £3,000 for the charity in the past 12 months.

We do a Cycle to Work scheme at all our sites, which enables us to calculate the emissions saved by people coming to work on their bikes instead of by car each day.

And we have worked closely with Lichfield District Council on a plastics initiative, which saw several volunteer staff go out into the community to pick litter and sift any plastics out of it for recycling.

We’ve also taken significant steps to ensure we comply with the Government’s mandatory Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) and its new Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) scheme, which came into force in April.

Providing a high-quality service in a sustainable way, whilst and caring for our workforce and our communities is an important part of our overall strategy. The steps we have taken to ensure compliance and gain relevant accreditation are testament to this.

“Obviously, we had to go through a robust application and auditing process to achieve ISO 14001 and some of the environmental initiatives we have done fall outside of this. However, taken together they do show that as a business, we like to think outside the box, work with our local partners and give a bit back to the communities we serve.”
