“UK has most productive automotive sector in Europe”
Government backs UK automotive manufacturing success

“The UK’s automotive sector got a big boost in the Autumn Statement, providing an additional £225 million funding for automotive R&D. We already have the most productive auto sector in Europe, and the government is determined to build on this. The projects established by the APC to promote low carbon innovation will ensure world-leading automotive manufacturing – and high-skilled jobs – in the UK for years to come.”
New car market returned to growth in November
Compared to November 2014, 3.8% more new cars were registered in November 2015, according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. About 80% of UK car production went for export.
Sales of alternatively fuelled vehicles were also up in November, which highlights consumers are increasingly considering environmental issues. Competitive pricing, continued low interest rates and strong finance incentives have driven new car sales in 2015.
However, data from the Association of European Carmakers (ACEA) also showed a slowdown in EU growth as a whole. Just over 1.1 million cars were sold in the EU last month, up 2.9% on last year but 9.8% down on September.
Analysts suggested that buyers may have been put off purchases while they awaited the outcome of investigations into how carmakers report emissions data, sparked by the discovery that VW cheated emissions tests.
