UK car production hits ten-year high
2015 was the best year in a decade for car production with 1.59 million vehicles built, and volumes are forecast to reach an all-time record two million by 2020.
"It was a strong year for Mini, which produced more than 200,000 vehicles from their plant in Oxford, marking a 12.4% increase on 2014."

It’s official – UK automotive industry workforce most productive in Europe
Productivity levels have increased 40% since 2010 to make UK labour productivity the highest in Europe; according to a new report published this February by the Automotive Council. The renaissance of the UK automotive industry since the recession has brought significant success to the sector and helped to sustain just under 800,000 jobs across Britain.
Nearly four out of five cars were exported, up by 2.7% on 2014, despite falls in sales to China and Russia, according to The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
“Despite export challenges in some key markets such as Russia and China, foreign demand for British-built cars has been strong, reaching record export levels in the past year.
“Europe is our biggest trading partner and the UK’s membership of the European Union is vital for the automotive sector in order to secure future growth and jobs.”
Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive
