Trail Investment in Biometric Clocking System
Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive Ltd are currently trailing a state-of-the art, employee Biometric fingerprint attendance system across a number of its UK based contract logistics operations.
Biometric time and attendance systems have become one of the most powerful applications of the biometric technology and are widely used at a number companies and organisations.
Utilising fingerprint recognition – the new system allows employees to register attendance in the workplace, without the use of traditional punch-cards or employee swipe cards.
Once fully tested and implemented the system is hoped to deliver a number of benefits both to R&HA and its customers. Such benefits include:
The Biometric Clocking System Trial hopes to deliver | |
Ease of use |
|
Faster clocking process |
|
Savings to payroll administration |
|
Accuracy |
|
Reduced expense by negating the use of expensive clock and swipe cards |
|
Improved security |
|

Reduced payroll errors |
The fingerprint scanner system operates by carrying out two separate tasks. Initially the reader requests an ‘image’ of the employees finger, and secondly it compares whether the pattern of ridges and valleys in this image matches the pattern of ridges and valleys in pre-scanned images.
Only specific characteristics, which are unique to every fingerprint, are filtered and saved as an encrypted biometric key or mathematical representation. No image of a fingerprint is ever saved, only a series of numbers (a binary code), which is used for verification. The algorithm cannot be reconverted to an image, so no one can duplicate the employee’s fingerprint.
The fingerprint technology which is utilised within the clocking system also has other applications which may be beneficial across R&HA’s business – including restricting access to various areas of the business including bonded Warehouses, warehousing stores and HR Information.
Fundamentally – the system is aimed, if applicable, to reduce costs, errors, time and provide an optimised solution to all of R&HA’s customers where relevant and suitable in application.
