The UK is currently the eighth largest manufacturing nation in the world with the Midlands being the epicentre of this powerhouse.
The UK has climbed to 8th place in the global manufacturing rankings
With a significant jump in output to £224 billion, the UK has climbed from 9th to 8th place in the global manufacturing rankings, cementing its role as a key player in this sector. This is according to Make UK's annual analysis of manufacturing facts and statistics for 2023.
The Midlands is one of the most dynamic areas for manufacturing in the UK
The Midlands manufacturing strengths make region key to increasing UK’s productivity, it's already a leading location for UK advanced manufacturing. The region sits on a multimodal transport network, providing access to 75% of the UK population within 2 hours. The international markets are serviced by multiple airports and international rail freight terminals (inland ports), which means it's at the heart of the UK's global supply chain. Which is reflected, as its exports are greater in value than any other region in the UK. Not surprising as the region is the home to world leading businesses like Alstom, Bombardier, Jaguar Land Rover, JCB, National Grid, Rolls-Royce, Tarmac and Toyota UK.
