The first UK logistics company to work with SAP S/4 HANA
1st April 2024
The successful roll-out of SAP S/4 HANA, SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP GTS at the MINI Plant in Oxford, saw the first car ever produced end2end in S/4, and it puts Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive in a unique position.
Our pioneering experience of the transformation
BMW Group’s revolutionary strategy for future automotive production, iFACTORY, uses SAP’s cloud-driven solution architecture for automotive industries. Using SAP S/4HANA and SAP’s supply chain logistics solutions, BMW Group have created the first blueprint for process digitisation of automotive plants of the future. This has established a new technology standard that is set to shape not only the automotive industry, but any manufacturing sector using global supply chains.
“Process digitisation is a key enabler of the transformation of the automotive industry. The BMW Group and SAP have had a longstanding partnership and collaboration spanning more than 30 years. I’m extremely excited that this is the first time the parts logistics solution has been deployed on a cloud architecture developed together by BMW Group and SAP.”
Thomas Saueressig member of the Executive Board of SAP SE responsible for SAP Product Engineering
Is S/4HANA a roadmap to the future if you run SAP R/3?
The decision of whether to upgrade to SAP S/4HANA is not an easy one, but what's the alternative? SAP R/3 will reach its end-of-mainstream maintenance in 2027, meaning limited support and potential security vulnerabilities. Integrating newer technologies and cloud applications with older systems becomes increasingly complex and expensive. Outdated systems limit real-time data insights, process optimisation, and overall operational efficiency. Manual processes and fragmented data in older systems make it harder to comply with evolving trade regulations and security standards. Outdated systems with known vulnerabilities become prime targets for cyberattacks, putting sensitive data at risk. The MINI Plant in Oxford is the first of BMW Group’s connected factories moving to the digitised cloud architecture over the next few years. It's regarded as a showcase for SAP and no doubt will become the obvious roadmap to the future if you run SAP R/3, no matter what sector you operate in.
