Talent Spotting in Automotive Logistics
With the exponential growth currently being enjoyed in the automotive sector, both OEMs and automotive logistic organisations are looking to bolster operational and planning teams.
Expanding customer operations means demand is high!
The supply of skilled experienced automotive logistics people is evidently limited and the demand for quality staff is slowly surpassing supply. Which is why Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive are on the look out for new talent. The search is focused both internally via out ‘Home Grown Timber’ policy but there is a realisation of the need to expand the horizons and bring in new people with existing skills.
“…the UK Government has identified a £3bn opportunity for domestic suppliers to provide parts to UK-based vehicle manufacturers.”
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, The UK automotive supply chain typically generates £4.8bn of added value annually. At present, about 80% of all component types required for vehicle assembly operations can be procured by UK suppliers, providing employment for approximately 82,000 people”
Looking at the figures, the automotive manufacturing sector is on the up, giving rise to great employment opportunities. However, given the supply chain is one of the most globally ubiquitous and essential industries, not many people stop to think about how things get from A to B let alone entering into the industry as a career; thus resulting in an ever decreasing talent pool.
Finding the next generation of logistics engineers
We need to encourage business students to look positively at careers in the automotive supply chain. The continuing globalisation of markets and supply chains have meant that automotive manufacturers and logistics providers are recruiting even at a time of high unemployment elsewhere.
“Supply chain specialists are in high demand in the automotive industry. Rudolph and Hellmann has recognised this and are actively seeking closer relationships with colleges and universities who
specialise in courses within the logistics arena.”
