Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive Ltd ramps up Health and Safety performance and MHE driver awareness through 'Tow Train Safety Campaign'
10th October 2022
The R&HA Health and Safety and Senior Management Teams have provided exceptional focus over the last few weeks raising awareness and rewarding good performance in areas of one its’ fastest paced operation based in Oxfordshire.
In fulfilment of provision of Production Logistics services to its OEM customer, R&HA utilise more than 50 Tow Tractor units per hour to deliver components to various locations in and around the Manufacturing facility. In such a busy environment and considering there are multiple other MHE applications operating in the facilities, it is imperative that R&HA’s associates are trained to a high level in use of this MHE, but also maintain awareness and continue to operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner, shift after shift, week after week.
In many instances R&HA’s logistics associates that operate tow trains are responsible for guiding and delivering high value automobile parts and logistics equipment in an extremely busy environment where MHE, manufacturing and pedestrian traffic crosses floor space regularly, in a culture where accidents or any potential danger to associates is always approached with zero tolerance.
In support of this key operational requirement – the H&S team have run an exercise that monitors tow train MHE behaviour daily. Representatives from the operational leadership team, randomly selected and observed operatives during shift working hours to identify areas of improvement, advise how to operate to in a safer manner. A specific and measurable criterion, focusing on 7 key points was utilised in each individual observation, of which over 700 individual spot assessments were carried out across a period of 5 weeks. In cases where performance was considered inadequate the team (supported by R&HA operations team) gave counselling and guidance.
High performers out the assessments were communicated as so and awarded a ticket into a free prize draw. Prizes were donated by R&HA’s management team including an Internet linked speaker, an electronic tablet, and a wide screen television.
The winners of the prizes were awarded to the successful operatives by the Senior Management Team on the 6th October 2022.
James Hamilton, R&HA CEO stated “Safety is of primary importance and is the responsibility of us all to ensure the safety and welfare of our fellow workers. Many thanks to our H&S and Leadership team in highlighting safe driving principles and raising awareness to all our Tow Train MHE drivers”
