Reconfiguration of your MHE fleet could significantly reduce operating costs
8th July 2011
This dictates the way labour is allocated and distributed. If the build plan gets revised, this has an impact on activity; therefore a review of MHE is essential.
The process starts with an audit to identify any areas for cost saving opportunities. Our Senior Operations and Contract management team individually focus on all processes across the current operating areas.
If an area is identified as having potential for improvement, all possible opportunities for synergy are explored. A detailed analysis is carried out on configuration, layout ,and storage to examine if a more efficient and cost effective solution could utilised within the specific warehousing capacity.
It’s a matter of balance
Warehouse configurations broadly fall into two camps, Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) where racking optimises the floor space but the MHE is very expensive. Alternatively, with a Wide Aisle configuration, the racking takes up greater space per pallet location but allows the use of more cost effective and faster access MHE to be utilised.
“Key to success is the speeding up of overall throughput of full pallet material to reduce operation cost without sacrificing quality of service.”
Mark Cranidge, Operations Director, Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive
Faster MHE fleet allows more streamlined receiving, picking and putaway process
Achieving the right combination has enabled Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive to consistently identify ways to reduce operational costs in an operational environment. This ‘bird’s eye view’ evaluation conducted in the audit enables a fresh approach to be adopted. It also enables existing equipment to be redistributed so it operates in a more effective process. This means cost savings can often be experienced without any fresh capital outlay.
Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive’s combined experience and relationships with the leading MHE suppliers enables a level of flexibility which larger organisations just cannot match.
