Project Zambia

Project Zambia

Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive Transport Supervisor – Wayne Harris and 6 of his dedicated fund raising colleagues, took their annual leave this summer to travel to the country of Zambia in Africa – but not for a holiday!!

The hands on-team travelled to the area of Lusaka on the 17th of October 2015 to further support the teams’ previous charity fund raising activities from July (see Autumn/Winter 2015 – Charity Walk Success). The main aim of the self-funded trip was to assist with the completion of a number of building and development projects in the Lusaka area – strongly supported by Local Wolverhampton Charities and Organisations in the area.

The first challenge for the team, was to assist the local community complete the decoration of a desperately needed school for 76 of the local children.

Wayne and the team worked to an extremely tight deadline, with paint brush and rollers in-hand, to help the community reach their end goal, a well presented and fresh looking school for the children to learn in. Wayne and his colleagues also supervised the provision of equipment and uniforms – to support the school’s sports curriculum activities.

Once completed, Wayne and the team also moved on to assist in a  project at another larger school in a desperately impoverished suburb of Lusaka called Kanyamer. The established school was in need of fresh water piping to give running water to the school. Wayne and the team assisted by donating funds to lay 150 metres of piping to prime a flowing water tap, assisting the school with fresh water where required. Wayne and the team also supplied the school with two huge bundles of clothes and equipment as well as plates, cups and cutlery.

The team were also privileged to visit a couple of state schools, a clinic (mini hospital) and a village community in the outback.

The two week project was deemed a success by local communities and the local Wolverhampton Organisations – including the Wolverhampton Rotary Club and the Bethel Christian Fellowship. In total Wayne and his colleagues raised £4,948 and donated 2 full weeks of their own time to support the projects in Zambia.
