Pick, pack and despatch on demand to anywhere in the world
2nd November 2010
Globalisation of the automotive industry means that plants across the world can share the same components. This streamlining and harmonisation of models, components and processes can have many benefits – especially if there is a shortfall elsewhere in the global network.
Who needs what, where and by when?
When any plant, anywhere in the world request a part held by one of our client’s manufacturing vehicles in the UK, they were in a dilemma. The requests would not be frequent enough to set up a dedicated in-house team, but when the requests did arrive it was essential they were dealt with efficiently and immediately.
An in-house ‘on-demand’ operation
From an initial requisition to pick and pack the part held within the global network, the plant would need to ensure that all systems that required changes were actioned and documented. Since, if a part or parts were leaving, they needed to be replaced, the costs needed to be re-allocated and then recouped. The donor manufacturing base would also need to liaise with hauliers, air cargo or whichever was the most appropriate mode of transportation given the destination and timescales.
Out-sourced to Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive
By utilising Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive staff to monitor the data integrity of the advanced shipping notification (ASN) and the electronic data Interface (EDI) information from the clients global parts suppliers, the client ultimately had an ‘on demand – outsourced’ solution to deliver the services required immediately they were needed, but on a ‘pay as you go’ basis. This made the management of the service cost centric to the demand and fulfilment of the plant requesting the parts and not an overhead of the donor plant.
