How ‘Very Narrow Aisles’ help increase throughput

The new racking configuration was implemented to increase volume throughput of an existing process which involved the ‘putaway and picking’ of small parts material into an automated storage system. Supporting the receipt, storage and delivery of ‘medium’ size parts into the OEM’s manufacturing plant.

Increased production demand led to a review of all related logistics and supply chain processes. This resulted in the identification of a number of practical improvements to utilise the space available by optimising logistic processes to increase manufacturing capacity.

It was critical that any changes to the existing logistics service were uninterrupted during the changeover and the manufacturing operation was not compromised.

Careful planning meant the implementation of the project went seamlessly, with the manufacturing process completely undisturbed throughout the installation and crossover period.
