92% Green Audit Result sets the VDA benchmark
8th July 2011
The goal was to make it even more precise and adapt it to the changing requirements of the automotive industry.
With every automotive manufacturer keen to achieve a 'Green Status' the standard is stringent
The VDA audit is always a very demanding point in the calendar of any automotive manufacturer adhering to the standards, and Bentley are no different.
When Bentley appointed Rudolph and Hellmann Automotive as their logistics partners, the goal of consistently achieving 'Green Status' was set. Successfully gained, the 'Green Status' was maintained until it was revised in 2010, when there was a dramatic increase in the scrutiny and criteria. Unfortunately for Bentley and Rudolph and Hellmann, this raising of the standard coincided with a major restructure of the manufacturing infrastructure.
With two external sites closing and a consolidation of operations on-site to streamline the manufacturing process and increase efficiency, the Green Status was narrowly missed and the result was an Amber Status.
If a plant achieves Green status the next audit is required within two years; if a plant achieves Amber status the audit is required within one year; Red status results in a re-audit within 6 months.
It was critical that Green Status be achieved
With the audit to take place in week thirteen, superstition was cast aside and everyone's focus was on regaining the Green status. With no stone left unturned, every process was analysed, every employee spoken to, ensuring complete understanding.
As expected the audit was intense but after many hours of focus and attention to detail, the Green Status was awarded. It wasn't long before the good news was celebrated.
"Well done to everybody involved. A great result especially considering the complexity in our logistics processes."
These were the comments from Michael Straughan, Member of the Board, Bentley Manufacturing. Sentiments echoed by Ian Sutherland, The Logistics Director at Bentley who said,
"Just a brief note to offer my thanks to yourselves and your teams in gaining a 92% Green Audit result last week. I recognise the effort that has gone into achieving this result. The Auditors recognise that as a Plant we now have a platform that is robust and in some cases benchmark.”
