10 Peaks Challenge YAT Completed!!
7th October 2020
On Saturday 3rd October 6 of the R&HA Team set out to complete the 10 Peaks Challenge in the Brecon Beacons in aid of the Youth Adventure Trust. The team consisting of Artur Tokarski, Jimmy Hamilton, Adam Jones, Marcin Tomala, Rafal Borkowski and Stewart Kelly set out from Challenge Base at 05:40 hrs to tackle the first of the peaks Corn Du and then on to Pen Y Fan, the highest of the peaks at 886 metres.
The team started in good spirits, with head torches on and walking poles on the go, the size of the Challenge soon became apparent as the trek to first peak seemed to be never ending.
The trek had to be scaled down due to the impact of Storm Alex throwing everything he had at the Brecon area, streams and rivers were overflowing, paths became streams and the wind was literally breath taking. These conditions galvanised the team to act as one with the stronger members supporting the less experienced to keep going.
After 7 hours of constant slogging away the team finally made it back to the Challenge Base (via a stop at the café for a bacon sandwich and a coffee).
Extremely cold and wet the trek was over for this year and the whole team had returned from the mountains safely. The challenge was to raise £3,000 for the Youth Adventure Trust and to support the fantastic work this charity is does with kids in the Swindon area.
All 6 members of the team have had a truly remarkable experience, the muscle aches and blisters will go, but the memories of the experience will last a lifetime.
We chose this challenge due to the personal involvement of one of the team with the Youth Adventure Trust. It was an extremely difficult challenge but ultimately the money raised for the charity carried everyone through.
The link below is still active and we are keen for everyone to keep supporting us and raise as much as we can for the YAT.
